Passive Solar Ventilation Passive solar ventilation is used in designing air conditioning systems particularly in places which experience extremes of cold temperatures such as winter coldness in temperate regions. It involves the use of passive solar ventilation air pre heater with exterior corrugated steel perforated with tiny holes to allow fresh air to penetrate. The system is designed to ensure controlled entry of air into the air conditioned room so that extreme cold air which would require more power to heat or warm is simply not allowed in. This allows solar powered ventilation system to use less energy and provide power for a relatively longer period than would otherwise have been.

Passive solar ventilation system is more convenient if considered at the time of construction but can as well be installed much later on in finished buildings. When it is factored in the initial construction structure, it is much easier to install and even cost effective. Passive solar ventilation uses insulation techniques similar to solar water heater tanks. These are crucial features for extreme temperature variation zones where outside temperatures may work to greatly undermine the heating impact of solar heating equipment. It is a necessary feature since the need is not only to heat the air in the room or the water in a heating tank but also to ensure that the air in the room is largely insulated against extreme cold air outside to ensure the heat in the air conditioned chamber is retained much longer.

The passive solar technology is an important achievement in the efforts to provide warmth in very cold areas given the rising costs of other forms of power sources. It is very efficient making optimal use of little solar energy available during winter to ensure continued provision of heating services for rooms. Solar energy use remained elusive for a long time in temperate zones because the sun is also absent when it is needed most. The solar devices which were available did not have the capacity to store heat energy for extended periods of time which meant that solar energy services were only useful during summer. With the invention of passive solar ventilation, solar energy use is covering greater horizons than earlier envisaged. More inventions like this will work in a complementing manner to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and to increase the use of solar energy.

Solar energy use is still unexploited and seems inexhaustible and may only be hindered by our inability to trap it.
